Inspired by the Swedish way of life, the new Volvo XC40 meets the need for organisation and sophistication. In order to discover this for ourselves, the Momentum team joined Volvo UK for a relaxing weekend at The Grove Luxury Spa and Hotel.
The new Volvo XC40
To begin the Momentum Social weekend away, we hopped into a chauffeur-driven Volvo XC40. Bleary-eyed and yawning we immediately settled into the spacious cab. The interior was bright and airy, with plenty of natural light pouring in through the panoramic roof. Generally speaking, compact SUVs aim to fill the middle-ground between performance saloons, estates and 4X4’s. However, the XC40 has a totally re-inspired purpose; to create the lagom lifestyle.
Lagom, is a Swedish word, meaning ‘just the right amount’. Many consider it to be the secret to Swedish contentment, virtue in moderation or living life in perfect balance.
The lagom lifestyle
You don’t buy a Volvo XC40, you subscribe to the lagom lifestyle. Well, you do if you currently live around the M25. Until now, owning a car was a complicated and often painstaking process. However, Volvo has changed the game. A single monthly payment covers the lease, tax, insurance and servicing of the XC40. For those in the M25 area it even comes with a virtual concierge, which allows some Volvo customers to access exclusive services. Soon to be rolled out nationwide; at the touch of a button, the virtual assistant can book a table at your favourite restaurant, find you a parking space or complete tonnes of other functions. All things considered, the Volvo XC40 literally helps you to keep life in perfect balance.
Carefully-crafted features
Ultimately, the Volvo XC40 is everything you imagine a compact SUV to be. It has 5 doors, a spacious boot, sat nav and a host of safety features. However, it’s the features you don’t imagine, which makes all the difference. The designers at Volvo crafted the XC40 to be organised and simple. From moving the Harman Kardon speakers out of the door pocket and into the dash to leave enough space for a laptop and large water bottle. To the multiple luggage hooks and origami-like folding boot space.
A weekend with Volvo
Between enjoying the car, we were treated to an itinerary of well-organised events. As part of the ‘creative team’, Momentum founder The Debonair enjoyed a travel presentation on ‘how to pack for a 36-hour trip’ by GQ’s Style and Grooming Director, Teo Van Den Broeke, in collaboration with Alexandra Wood Tailoring. Followed by a photography lesson and dinner with the Volvo team. The ‘lagom’ attitude ensured the experience was relaxing highly memorable!
Huge thanks to the Volvo team and everyone who came along for the ride.
